ABOUT: What do I want? What does God want? What are we afraid of when making a decision? We will explore a range of tools from the Christian tradition together, to help us navigate our way through the spiritual movements we can expect to encounter when it comes to making a choice. ABOUT: How did the sacraments come to be? How did the first Christians view them and what meaning do they have for us today? This workshop will first present early Christianity on Slovenian soil, with a special focus on Christianity in Emona (today’s Ljubljana). It will also include a theatrical performance of the rite of baptism as it took place in the time of the early Christians.

ABOUT: What is meant by the term Byzantine liturgical chanting? Why is the oldest Church musical tradition simultaneously ancient and new? How is Byzantine music read? Why is music, or chanting specifically, the best way to prayerfully lift our thoughts and hearts to God? In Serbian culture there is a saying: “He who sings, thinks no evil.” A brief theoretical and practical workshop on Byzantine chanting with Professor Miloš Nikolić, a chanter and multi-instrumentalist, and doctor of musical arts.

ABOUT: Why are icons indispensable and how are they made? God created humanity in His image, but after the Fall, humans in their turn strived to create images that could show themselves in an unfallen or redeemed state. Icons were, and are, such images, although mostly in the Eastern Orthodox world. However, the whole of Christianity needs them to be able to communicate with Jesus Christ and the saints, and to contemplate both the human face and body in the Kingdom Come. With Dr. Oliver Tomić, professor of art history, and byzantinologist and Jelena Hinić, professor of icon painting.

ABOUT: At a time of great changes in society, the Catholic Church is looking for ways to live its mission. The involvement of all God’s people of different Christian traditions is essential. The Synod on Synodality has brought new methods for discerning together the way through the challenges of our times. The participants in the roundtable will talk with us about the process so far and the lessons that are being learned.

ABOUT: What can you do for others in your free time and how can you grow/gain experience/professional competencies while doing it? Do you know how many different ways you can do this? ABOUT: A young family who decided to follow a different path want to discuss why agriculture currently isn’t in the best situation, what the main threats are and what can be done about it. ABOUT: The hidden journeys of Taizé brothers and young volunteers to the countries behind the former Iron Curtain, the creation of a continental and ecumenical network and the resulting contacts and friendships that have lasted until today… What can this 30-year history tell us today, in times of new divisions, new walls, new wars? What impulses and what idea of Europe can the memory of this history suggest to us?

ABOUT: How can we see and accept the divisions in our society? How can we approach healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation? And how can we recognise and heal intergenerational trauma?

We would like to share the heavier side of Slovenian history with pilgrims, when the nation experienced an internal split when faced with three totalitarian systems. There are still more than 1,000 mass and unmarked graves throughout the country. Using Slovenia as a case study, we will discuss the rifts and the paths to healing that are unfortunately also familiar to other communities around the world, with literary historian Matija Ogrin and psychotherapist Katarina Možina.

ABOUT: Ana Ramovš is a medical doctor and gerontologist. ‘Pain, people dying, struggling to breathe, despair due to a sudden death of a loved one, injustice, senseless violence, destruction and war – facing all that, I am more often than not left powerless. Sometimes it weighs heavily on me and there were times when I wondered how much more I could take. And yet I am thankful for the experience and for my vulnerability because I also learn from it. And then there is God…’ This workshop will explore our experience when facing the suffering of people and the world around us and together we’ll try to search for sources of strength that can move us forward.

ABOUT: What is AI and what is it not? What does it mean to say humans built AI in our image? Are we being shaped by our interactions with AI? How do we meaningfully relate to AI? ABOUT: Taking responsibility brings challenges. How do we take responsibility for our communities? How do we do so ethically and without losing the sense of dialogue? Borut Pahor, former President of the Republic of Slovenia, and Lojze Peterle, the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, are politicians and statespeople with many years of experience in Europe and the wider world. Throughout their careers, they have held various leadership positions. We will talk to them about ethical decision-making, conduct, and responsibility in high positions, and their views on young people as protagonists.

ABOUT: What role do the very ill and the dying have in our society? What are their needs and how should we address them? You are welcome to listen and participate in this roundtable discussion with guests experienced in palliative care.

ABOUT: With Jože Ramovš, professor of logotherapy, social work, and gerontology, we will explore three inseparable tools, shown also in Taizé’s monastic experience: These are: 1. concrete meaningful activity, 2. contemplative spiritual immersion, 3. empathic relationship with people and nature. Their grateful awareness and successful balance bridges the gap between faith and everyday life. The workshop will be in Slovenian with English translation.

ABOUT: A guided tour of Plečnik’s Ljubljana. One of Ljubljana’s most influential architects, Plečnik left his mark on the city. Through getting to know some of his greatest interventions in Ljubljana, we can understand how he transformed the city with his human-centred design.

ABOUT: You have probably already visited the Ljubljana railway station and maybe you have even crossed the Triple bridge. But Slovenia’s capital has many secret spots and hidden gems, waiting for you to find them. Bring a group of friends or come alone and meet other pilgrims as you make your way around the city.

ABOUT: There are many Christmas carols in Slovenia. Some of them are true masterpieces, and many of them are not difficult to learn. After the choir presents the songs, you will have the opportunity to sing along with them. The workshop will be led by two young Slovenian conductors. (No special musical knowledge is required).

ABOUT: Every evening in Stožice during the meeting, we pray in front of large reproductions of Slovenian folk art practised on beehive panels. In this workshop you will discover the world of the Carniolan bee, a protected Slovenian bee species, and why beekeeping is so important for our hosts. You will be able to create your own beehive panel: a practical exercise where art and prayer meet. In collaboration with the Carniolan Bee House and the Beekeeping Society of Slovenia. (All materials provided. Limited to 50 participants.)

ABOUT: Participants will spin with us across Slovenia and learn a few dances. In addition to dancing, we will also discuss the significance of folklore, traditions, and clothing culture in folk dances.

ABOUT: God reveals himself in different ways – in the silence of prayer, through relationships with those closest to us; and we can seek him through sacred art in a special way. At this workshop, we will walk around St. James church, look at the altars and frescoes, and try to recognize what is depicted and what message it is trying to communicate.

ABOUT: A reflection on singing in common prayer, popular culture, and national life, with testimonies from people who took part in the “singing revolution”, the non-violent process that led Estonia to regain its independence in 1991.

OPIS: Does God reveal Himself through letters and colours shaped by the human hand? Can inspiration for a fuller present be found in the past?
This year, for the first time, the library of the Franciscan monastery in Ljubljana, considered the oldest library institution in Slovenia (1233-2023), was opened to the public together with a new museum and gallery. It preserves some of the most important books, paintings and other artefacts of Slovenian (sacred) cultural heritage. The workshop offers a guided tour of the Franciscan Library and Museum with a Pinacoteca.

WHERE: Slovenian Ethnographic Museum, Metelkova ulica 2, 1000 Ljubljana
ABOUT: Guided tour through the exhibition of the Slovene Ethnographic Museum. Exploring Slovene and world cultural heritage of everyday and festive life with over 3000 objects on display. Together we will gain an insight into how the rich variety of purposes for which our ancestors made and used objects, and how their forms were differentiated and changed over time and space.

ABOUT: Take a walk through the history of the city from prehistoric times to modernity. You can even see the oldest wheel in the world.

ABOUT: Visit this exhibition and get to know Slovenia’s most famous architect, whose works in Ljubljana were put on the UNESCO list.

ABOUT: With its latest exhibition they are highlighting the contribution of Slovenian women artists (architects and photographers) between 1850-1950.

ABOUT: Contemporary art exhibition venue with the current exhibition. From the void came gifts of the cosmos.
